Lexica (“Lexica,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a daily vocabulary SMS service operated by Sam Starkman. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Lexica or lexica.io, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use Lexica, we may collect:
- Contact and account details — phone number, name, and email address you provide at checkout or signup.
- Billing information — payment is processed by Stripe. We receive identifiers such as a Stripe customer ID and subscription status. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- Service usage data — which Word of the Day messages you have received, subscription active/inactive status, and related timestamps.
- Communications — SMS keywords you send us (for example MANAGE, STOP, HELP) and related delivery metadata from our messaging provider.
- Website data — standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited when you use lexica.io. If we use analytics or advertising pixels in the future, those tools may collect similar information under their own policies.
2. How we use information
- Provide and operate the Lexica SMS service (including sending daily words and welcome messages).
- Process subscriptions, payments, renewals, failed-payment notices, and cancellations.
- Respond to support requests and service-related messages.
- Maintain and improve the service, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
- Send service or transactional messages related to your subscription. Marketing texts are only sent where permitted and consistent with your consent and carrier rules.
3. SMS consent and messaging
By subscribing and providing your phone number, you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from Lexica about your vocabulary service (such as Word of the Day and account notices). Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of Lexica texts, HELP for help, or MANAGE for billing portal information.
Opting out of texts via STOP stops Lexica Word of the Day messages. It does not automatically cancel a paid Stripe subscription. To stop billing, cancel through the Stripe customer portal or as described in our Terms.
4. Service providers
We use trusted vendors to run Lexica, including:
- Stripe — payments and subscription billing.
- Twilio — SMS delivery and related messaging infrastructure.
- Google Cloud / Firebase — hosting, databases, and application infrastructure.
- OpenAI — generating or enriching word definitions and examples for the vocabulary catalog. We do not use this to train Lexica’s product on your private account content beyond operating the service.
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us, under their respective terms and privacy policies.
5. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers listed above, when required by law or to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or sale of assets), in which case we will take reasonable steps to require the recipient to honor this Policy.
6. Retention
We keep account and message-history records for as long as your subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterward for billing, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and service continuity. You may request deletion as described below, subject to legal retention requirements.
7. Your choices and rights
- Reply STOP to stop Lexica SMS messages.
- Manage or cancel paid billing through the Stripe portal (reply MANAGE for the link).
- Email us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we hold about you.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law. Contact us and we will respond as required.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to a small online service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
9. Children
Lexica is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International users
Lexica is operated from the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, you understand your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
11. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Lexica after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
